 alchemy

My photography has gradually developed to include abstracts, deliberate blur, intentional camera movement (ICM), double exposures, and the use of Lensbaby art lenses, to which I have become reasonably addicted. All of these techniques and styles allow me to bring depth and feeling to my images, holding to the emotions the subject evoked and sometimes creating something beyond the scene I originally saw. Another path to a shift in perception was participating in the 365 Project for six years, taking and posting an image every day (more on this here). One of the themes in which I loved to participate was the Eye of the Beholder challenge, where we were invited to capture the downright mundane or even ugly and find its beauty. This prompted me to start looking out for the kind of image where somebody might stop and ask you what on earth you were photographing - which often happens. I have set up an Eye of the Beholder loop on Instagram and it's always fascinating to see how different people interpret the theme. The galleries below offer some examples of all of the above - please click through with the arrows.
