One of my first purchases was a 60mm macro lens for my Olympus OMD EM5. What a joy to be able to come in close and see what I had been missing for so long. The interiors of flowers flow and connect and startle in the most amazing ways – those beads of moisture in the black centre of a sunflower that I had never even noticed before became a treasure trove of jewels, and it turned out the centre wasn’t black at all.
With my aperture wide open (f1.8, for example) I can find a skinny slice of focus, getting right to the heart of the matter. My Lensbaby art lenses have helped me to capture the essence of flowers. Often I see something extra when I look through the lens, and something more when I upload the image to my computer screen. I then enjoy processing images with textures, presets and colour grading. There is something infinitely healing
In the repeated refrains
Of nature – the assurance
That dawn comes after night
And spring after winter
