Once my children left home I was able to take over a small bedroom as my studio, and this is where I will often be found on winter evenings, creating stories with beloved objects. I have some studio lights and a tripod and some beautiful backdrops and I can play for hours with my lighting and set-up. On the 365 Project (more on this here) there was a regular artist thread in which we took photographs in a particular artist's style and I found that this kind of challenge opened my mind to different ways of creating.
